Funeral services for Elsie Sackmann, age 82, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, SD.  Pastor Carin Bear will officiate with burial in the Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.  A family and friends service will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with Charlotte Kvale, officiating.

Elsie Beyers Sackmann was born on May 22, 1936 to Eudora and Harold Beyers in McIntosh South Dakota.  She was one of eight children.

In 1953 she met Rudy.  They were united in marriage on December 31, 1954.  It was the first wedding in the newly built Calvary Lutheran Church.

To this marriage four children were born: Jody, Pam, Jeff and Chuck.

She has been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years and a long time member of the Calvary Lutheran Church.

During her many years of being a stay at home mom to her children, she made thousands and thousands of agate bracelets for Wheeler Mfg. Many a Saturday night she and Rudy worked together at Pudwill’s Steak House, a job they considered more fun than work.  Elsie then worked at both the Coast to Coast and Jerry's Hardware Store.  For a short period of time she worked for the school lunch service.

She developed a love for diamonds and as luck would have it she worked at Riddles Jewelry, which she thoroughly enjoyed until her retirement.

Elsie loved following her children and grandchildren through their sporting careers and it kept her young and fun. She was proud to be named with Rudy as Lemmon Sports Booster Fan of the Year 2006-2007.

She was a very giving and compassionate person and loved her family dearly.  Her nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart and she was always there for them as she was own children. She never tired of being with family and was recently the bell of the ball at the latest Beyers Family Reunion in July.

While Elsie endured over twelve years of cancer and treatment, she never complained and was always upbeat. She lived life to the fullest and would only let God decide when it was her time to go.

Elsie passed away at home on Monday August 27, 2018 with her family members by her side.

She is survived by her daughters, Jody Thorn and Pam (Tas) McEwin; sons, Jeff (Carla) Sackmann and Chuck Sackmann; grandchildren, Jacqui, Abby, Stephanie, Heather, Zach, Rudi, Ben, Joe, Kristina, Josh, Katie, Daniel, Kurt, Jessica, special grandchildren Katie, Kelli, Krista and Justin; great-grandchildren, Dorian, Daevin, Isaiah, Julianna, Jacob, Lyla, Eddie, Carter, Brenden, Chenel, Gunner, Ashton, Austin, Jaden and Averie; sister Karen Rafferty and sister-in-laws Bonnie Beyers and Leah Schell and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rudy; mother and father, Eudora Farstad and Harold Beyers and step-father Herb Farstad; son-in-law Steve Thorn and six siblings.

A memorial has been established.
