Sturgis couple endows First Responders Fund

News Staff - October 15, 2018

STURGIS, SD – An initial donation of $20,000 has established the Albert and Laverne Elliott First Responders Fund to provide immediate relief to the family of Dave Fischer, a Sturgis volunteer fire fighter who lost his life during a house fire and subsequent propane tank explosion.

A presentation to Fischer’s family is set for tonight during the Sturgis City Council meeting.  Fischer, who also worked with the Sturgis Ambulance Service, served with the fire department for 22 years most recently as the assistant chief. He was also a member of the South Dakota National Guard's 82nd Civil Support Team.

The fund’s first gift of $20,000 from the Sturgis couple will be presented to his wife Shawn Fischer. The presentation will take place at approximately 6:30pm during the Sturgis City Council meeting at the Erskine Building, 1300 Sherman St., in Sturgis.

Contributions to the Albert and Laverne Elliott First Responders Fund can be made by contacting the Black Hills Area Community Foundation office at 605-718-0112.
