Charlotte Marie (Hale) McBrayer

Charlotte Marie McBrayer

- November 3, 2018

Charlotte Marie (Hale) McBrayer was born May 27, 1953 in Rapid City, SD to Wallace F. and Elizabeth I. (Warren) Hale. She was the second oldest child. Charlotte passed away on October 22, 2018 at Hospice of the Hills in Rapid City, S.D. She was 65 years old.

Charlotte grew up in Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1971. Her fondest childhood memories were spending her summers with her cousin, Mikki, at her grandparent’s ranch in Fairpoint, S.D.

Charlotte was excellent with her hands; she was a great cook, enjoyed sewing and making blankets. She also loved the outdoors, gardening, horseback riding, camping and fishing. Charlotte had the most fun as a welder’s helper on the pipeline in Gillette Wyoming. She was an avid reader and loved crime shows. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Charlotte married John Chapman and later divorced. She then married Tom McBrayer and they too, later divorced, although they remained friends. Charlotte had five children, three of whom were placed for adoption. Finding her twin daughters Debra and Dawn, that she had placed for adoption was a great surprise and brought more happiness into her and her family’s life. Charlotte was a free spirit with a courageous and resilient soul.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and her husband, Tom. She is survived by her children, Debra (Brian) Remme, Dawn (Josh) Hadler, Ryan (Rikki) Chapman, Megan (Carrie) Chapman; sister, Kristine A. Walker; brothers, Kenneth M. (Katie) Hale and Jeffery O. Hale; her adored grandchildren, T.J., Whitney, Anna, Britton, Rayann, Sophia, Makenna, Tia, Morgan, and Lucas; her great grandchild, Akira; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

To honor Charlotte’s wishes her remains were cremated at Black Hills Funeral Home, no official services will be held. However her life will be celebrated by close family members to scatter her remains on her grandparent’s ranch in Fairpoint, S.D.

Friends and family may sign her online guestbook and leave written condolences for the family at blackhillsfuneralhome.com.
