SPEARFISH, S.D. – On Senior Day, the Black Hills State University football team fell to No. 12 Colorado State University-Pueblo, 59-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the game, the 15 Yellow Jacket seniors were honored. Chris James, Ryan Hommel, Dimitri Butts, Taran Whelchel, Trey Fleming, Luis Bach, Jess Edens, Drew Hebel, Shane Brooks, Jack Mazurie, Austin Goddard, Kolten Johnson, Clayton Dry, Zane Lindsey, and Marquise Clayton were thanked for their contributions to the program.

The first seven minutes of the game were a defensive battle, as each team was stymied in their first two drives. However, the Thunderwolves (9-1, 8-1 RMAC) got the ball with just under eight minutes to play in the first quarter around midfield, and used 10 plays to score the first touchdown of the game, taking a 7-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets (2-8, 2-8 RMAC), with 4:53 left in the first. CSU-Pueblo would score on its next three drives, recorded two rushing touchdowns and a 31-yard field goal to go ahead, 24-0. The visitors would take that lead into the break.

The Yellow Jackets got the ball first in the second half, but the offense was unable to get going. The Thunderwolves wasted no time taking advantage, as Max Fine caught a 51-yard touchdown from Brandon Edwards on the first play of the ensuing drive.

The Green and Gold's Lathen Stevens intercepted backup quarterback AJ Thompson on CSUP's next drive, but the offense once again failed to move the ball. The Thunderwolves then used a 99-yard drive to take a 38-0 lead with 7:02 to play in the third. CSU-Pueblo would score three more times in the fourth quarter, including an interception returned for a score, and would secure the 59-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory to move into a tie for first place in the conference.

Ryan Hommel threw for 106 yards, and had five interceptions. Isaac Jefferson led the Yellow Jackets with 38 receiving yards, while Zane Lindsey caught four passes for 25 yards. Defensively, Austin Goddard and Hunter Stephens each had 12 tackles, with Goddard adding a sack. Drew Hebel had 11 tackles, while Jarrell Ganaway and Josh Gurnaby each tallied 10.

For the Thunderwolves, Austin Miccci (120 yards) and Marcus Lindsay (103 yards) each surpassed the century mark in rushing, while also tallying a score. David Cardinal rushed for two touchdowns, and Preston Guerra and AJ Thompson each scored one rushing score as well. Defensively, Kyle Rosenbrock had eight tackles, including three or loss. Emery Taylor had two interceptions.

The Yellow Jackets will wrap up the season on November 10 at Robert Morris University. The game, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m. mountain time.
