Millicent “Millie” Lavonne Cowles

Millicent Lavonne Cowles

- November 7, 2018

Millicent “Millie” Lavonne Cowles, 90, decided that she couldn’t wait any longer to be with her loving husband and left us on October 31, 2018. This loving reunion was provided by the amazing grace given to all of us by her Lord and Savior.

Millie was born in Brainerd, MN on May 22, 1928 to Robert and Hazel (Musolf) Mee. She was married to Laverne Cowles on March 1, 1947 in Billings, MT. Millie lived in several locations before starting her family in the Lead/Deadwood area. The family moved to Denver around 1960. After 27 years she moved to Rapid City and then Spearfish. After losing Verne she moved to her final home at Gray Cara, in Keenesburg, CO.

Millie loved to sing, being in a trio and singing in many choirs. She was a Brownie and Cub Scout leader in her children’s early years which included singing to them. Millie was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi in Colorado and South Dakota. She worked at Woolco as a personnel manager while living in Northglenn. Millie was a member of several Lutheran churches, volunteering in several guilds, singing in choirs, and helping in food pantries. Millie enjoyed reading and was a queen at crossword puzzles. While living in Spearfish she loved her Saturday morning breakfasts at Cheyenne Crossing, Saturday night meals at Pizza Hut in Belle, and their Sunday drives after church on Sunday’s. She also loved spending time with her children, grandkids and great grandkids. And did we mention that she loved to sing?

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse, Laverne Cowles and daughter, Cheryl Shepherd. Millie is survived by her brothers, Jack (Ann) Mee, and Larry (Cheryl) Mee; her daughter, Christy (Chuck) Adams; sons, Stevan (Mickey) Cowles and Raymond (Linda) Cowles; nine grandchildren: Kirsten (Ryan), Zak (Chrissy), Luke (Andrea), Chris (Amber), Michelle (Mike), Eddie (Kristen), Michelle (Dan), Trisha (Matt) and Jacob (Alexandra); as well as 24 great-grandchildren: Emily, Bridger, Ryley, Hayden, Dillon, Caden, McKinley, Brooklyn, Jaxson, Logan, Eddie, Cooper, Haver, Greyson, Kaytlyn (Jakeob), Kyler, Michael, Bre, Logan, Teagan, Raegan, Lillianna, Liam and Guiseppe. Millie is also survived by her sister by marriage, Jeannine Jones and all her nieces and nephews who were very special to her.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Little Dane Cemetery in St Onge.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
