Scoopers drop SoDak 16 game to Harrisburg

Scooper boys end season with SoDak 16 loss to Harrisburg

Gary Matthews & Terry Anderson - March 3, 2019

HARRISBURG, S.D. - The Sturgis Scooper boys basketball team saw their season come to an end Saturday night with a 60-48 loss to Harrisburg.

The Class AA SoDak 16 game saw the Tigers jump out to a quick 13-7 lead.

Harrisburg clamped down on the outside shooting of Ryan Garland, and offensively, the Scoopers just couldn't find their rhythm.

Harrisburg would outscore the Scoopers 20-9 in the second half, and at halftime, had a dominating 33-16 lead.

Sturgis would mount a short comeback in the third quarter, cutting the Tiger lead to 10, but Harrisburg's Nick Hoyt and Blair Slaughter were too much to handle for the Scoopers.

Hoyt led the Tigers with 16 and Slaughter added 15.

Gavin West led the Scoopers with 16 points.

The game was pushed back a couple of hours after the Scooper bus got stuck behind a turned over semi truck that was blocking the Interstate.

Sturgis finishes the season with a 15-6 record. Harrisburg heads to the Boys Class AA State Basketball Tournament.
