Judy Irene (Stolz) Koster

Judy Irene (Stolz) Koster

Judy Koster

- April 30, 2019

Judy Irene (Stolz) Koster was born June 29, 1944, in Yankton, SD, to Fred and Martha (Schneider) Stolz.  She was one of five children.  Judy graduated from Tyndall High School in 1962.

Judy married Ray Pechous in 1963, to which 2 children were born, Valerie and Susan.  Judy took great pride in being and mother and a homemaker.  She often had the neighbor kids, Denise, Glenn, and Debbie, along with her 2 daughters, mixing up cookies, cakes, or banana bread to bake.

In the mid ‘70s, Judy began working for Control Data/SCI as a solderer and later worked her way up in the company.  She won awards for her work.  Judy's work with SCI took her to Bangkok, Thailand, which was the highlight of her career.

In 1986, Judy married Ray Koster.  Ray worked as a truck driver, which took him all over the United States.  Judy occasionally rode along with Ray to see the country.  After her marriage to Ray, Judy started working part-time for East West Motor Express, which was owned by their good friend, Darwyn (Bette) Stebbins.  This part-time job turned to full-time and Judy got to work alongside her daughter, Susan, and husband, Ray, for many years.

After Judy and Ray retired, they would hop in the pickup and take off to visit family.  Many a time, they were headed to a planned destination and would sidetrack in the opposite direction.  Judy would take lots of pictures of the countryside and after a few hundred wondered what she was going to do with all those pictures and how she was going to keep track of where those pictures were taken.

Judy's favorite pastime was cooking and baking.  Her signature dish was her Halupsy which is a German dish made with ground hamburger, rice, sauerkraut, and onions.  All of her childhood dishes she made without using a recipe.  She was always picking up cooking magazines and she really enjoyed all the new cooking shows on TV.  When Judy saw a recipe that looked or sounded good, she would write it down and try it out in her kitchen.
