Scooper baseball uses walked in run to beat Rapid City Central

Gary Matthews - May 9, 2019

STURGIS, S.D. - On senior night, the Sturgis Scoopers made it an unforgetable one as they used a walked in run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Rapid City Central 5-4.

The Scoopers scored first in the bottom of the second as David Anderson and Cedrick Stabber each scored a run. Anderson got on base after being hit by a pitch and Stabber scored a hit. Carl Nash added an R.B.I. and a sacrifice fly by Manny Gallosa brought home Stabber.

The Scoopers would add an additional run in the fifth as Alec Keffeler came home on a wild pitch.

The Cobblers would take the lead in the sixth inning as Jon DeRuyter, Mason Richards, Ethan Byrd and Dominic Santiago all brought in runs. Byrd, Jackson, McGough and Aaron Iverson all had R.B.I.'s in the inning and Santiago scored on a wild pitch.

Down 4-3, Sturgis would score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Cobbler pitcher Mitch Sand walked home David Anderson with the bases loaded for the win. The Scoopers had tied the game earlier in the inning on a run by Ryan Garland.

Starting pitcher for Sturgis, Carl Nash, pitched three and a third innings and struck out three. Tristan Walter got the close, striking out four.

Starting Cobbler pitcher Ty Godkin struck out five in six innings of work.
