Governor's Ag Summit Begins

South Dakota Ag Summit kicks off this week

Mark Russo - July 9, 2019

SIOUX FALLS,S.D. -- Amidst a tough planting season, the tariff wars, and low commodity prices, the South Dakota Ag Summit opens this week in Sioux Falls.

State Agriculture Secretary Kim Vanneman says producers are a tough bunch.

"They are very resilient. It's been pretty tough going but we seem to have a pretty positive attitude for the most part, and things are going to be better tomorrow."

Vanneman says all the challenges currently facing producers will be discussed at the summit.

All segments of the Ag community will gather at the Sanford PREMIER Center over Wednesday and Thursday. But everyone is invited. It's free.

All South Dakotans are being invited to attend a town hall meeting Thursday at the Summit on the Emerald Ash Borer. The Ash tree-destroying insect is now in Sioux Falls. The city is spending millions to fight it. Experts will talk about how to slow its spread across the rest of the state.
