- August 12, 2019

Allen Leroy Oedekoven was born September 27, 1924, in Sturgis, SD, to Albert and Ella (Linstrom) Oedekoven.  He lived on the farm 17 miles northeast of Sturgis.  He went to Nine Mile Grade School and worked with his family, especially his two brothers, Standly and Vernon and with his dad as he got older.  He and his dad bought the place just east of the home place.  Later, Allen, Standly, and Vernon split into their own places.

On August 23, 1953, Allen married Hannah Ruby at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis.  They made their home n his farm on Nine Mile Creek until 1971.

To this union were born a son, Timothy Allen on April 6, 1957, and daughter, Rebecca Lynne on September 26, 1961.  They moved to Boulder Canyon in 1971.  Allen and Hannah ran the Boulder Park Campground and Allen continued to farm on Nine Mile until 2006.  Due to declining health and hard winters, they moved to Heritage Acres Apartments in Sturgis at the end of June 2009, after which they sold the campground.  In September of 2016, he moved to Key City Assisted Living.  In March of 2017, he moved to the Sturgis Regional Senior Care where he resided until his passing.

He was a past member of Vale Lutheran Church in Vale and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis.  He loved to play cards, especially the game of Spite and Malice.
