BH Steam & Gas Threshing Bee underway with antiques, tractor pulls, parades

News Staff - August 16, 2019

STURGIS, SD -  It’s a family affair at the 51st Annual Black Hills Steam and Gas Threshing Bee underway this weekend near Sturgis, SD.  It’s a great place to see hundreds of antique tractors and steam engines at work. This year’s featured piece of machinery is the Crawler tractor.

The Threshing Bee is held the third weekend in August each year with activities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 16-18.  There are parades, tractor pulls and historic displays.  It includes a train for the kids to ride and at least two different places serving food.  There is also a shingle mill and a saw mill in operation.  And, of course the thresher runs periodically.

The show is held East of Sturgis on Hereford Road about 1/2 mile past the airport.

Sponsored by the Western Dakota Antique Club, there are daily parades, a tractor rodeo, tractor pulls, (a kids pedal tractor pull too!), tractor and steamer races, a quilt show, a watermelon eating contest, games for all ages and a Sunday church service.

Exhibits include tractors, steam engines, stationary engines, antiques, a school house, museum, post office, log cabin, blacksmith shop and rock crusher. There is also a flea market that offers a wide variety of items from regional vendors.

Gates open at 7a.m. daily.  Admission is $7 per person, per day. Weekend and family passes are also available and kids 12 and under are free.
