SUNDANCE, Wyo. – The Crook County Sheriff’s Office says they are investigating a domestic violence incident that left one person dead.

According to a release, law enforcement was called to a Sundance residence at approximately 5:00 a.m. on the morning of October 5th for a report of a home invasion involving domestic violence.

While responding to the residence, deputies learned that there was a shot fired inside.  After arriving in the area, the deputies were informed by the 911 dispatcher that the victim didn’t know whether the suspect was still in the house. While staging to enter the residence deputies located the suspect walking down a road approximately a block from the residence.  The subject pointed a firearm at one of the deputies, in response, the deputy shot and hit the suspect who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is currently investigating the incident. As standard procedure, the deputy involved in the shooting is on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

The Sheriff’s Office says due to the privacy of all individuals involved, no further details of the incident will be released at this time.
