RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate is dead after being found hanging in his cell.
At around 3:30 a.m. on August 21, 2024, a correctional officer at the Pennington County Jail found a 44-year-old male inmate from Rapid City hanging in his cell.
Jail staff and paramedics performed life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful and the inmate was pronounced dead.
Immediate family members have been notified of the inmate’s death. The inmate’s identity and pending criminal charges will be released on August 22, 2024.
