CUSTER, S.D. – Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire that heavily damaged the Sylvan Lake Lodge at Custer State Park.
Fire crews responded to the blaze late Saturday night.
Custer State Park officials say the historic section of the building was spared, but several rooms on the east side of the building were destroyed.
The stone and timber lodge was built in the late 1930’s, funded in part through Depression-era New Deal programs.
A wing added in 1991 received the bulk of the damage.
Two firefighters received minor injuries fighting the fire, but no other injuries were reported.
Numerous fire departments from both South Dakota and Wyoming helped battle the blaze.
