James Lee Hacker, 81, of Moorcroft, Wyoming passed away peacefully at Crook County Long Term Care in Sundance, Wyoming on August, 2, 2024.
James was born on January 1, 1943. His parents, Robert and Mary Hacker raised Jim and his brother Jerry, in Cedar Lake, Indiana. Growing up the brothers were best of friends and even enlisted in the United States Navy together in 1966. Jim was extremely proud to be a veteran and serve his country until 1970.
James married his wife Sharon in 1970. They spent years in Indiana, Minnesota, and Nebraska before settling in Moorcroft, Wyoming. Together they raised four children: Mark (Carol) Land of Pine, CO, Michael Land (Deceased), Todd (Liane) Land of Lawton, OK, Lori (Justen) Robinson of Moorcroft, WY. His grandchildren include Kelsey Michael, Keith Land, Whitey Land, Cole (Devin) Robinson, Callie (Matt) Illies. Six great- grandchildren; Riley Michael, Preston Land, Charlie Conner, Rhen Robinson, Rio Robinson, Kayzlee Illies, and numerous nieces and nephews.
James started working at a Root Beer Stand as a young child and had a variety of jobs until finding his career with BNSF. He was an Engineer for 33 years until his retirement in 2007. At that time, him and his wife got to enjoy winters in Arizona.
Jim enjoyed all sports throughout his life, especially golf. He met many of his friends on the golf course and would talk for hours about the game. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and playing cards and games. Jim took great pride in his Grandkids and rarely missed a rodeo or sporting event. He was a friendly guy and loved visiting with everyone. In recent months Jim lived at Wyoming Assisted Living in Sundance, Wyoming where he enjoyed all of the residents and activities.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Hacker, his parents, Robert and Mary Hacker and his son, Michael Ray Land.
Graveside inurnment will take place at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the Moorcroft Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Keyhole Country Club.
