Karen Mae Lang

Karen Mae Lang, 63, of Newell, SD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, surrounded by loved ones as she journeyed home.

Karen is survived by her 4 children: Tara Kracht of Spearfish, SD, Amber Lang (Chris Salat) of Broomfield, CO, Megan (Kurt) Potter of Rapid City, SD, and John Lang Jr. (Megin) of Belle Fourche, SD; her 3 brothers: Morgan (Marcia) Strohschein of Belle Fourche, SD, Dave Strohschein of Newell, SD, and Karl Strohschein of Newell, SD; Karen leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Bailey Lang (Lane Jenkins), Gage Kracht, Tyson Kracht, Daven Kracht, Kailynn Lang, Kasen Lang, and Sophie Potter; along with 2 great-grandchildren: Waylon, and Emmy Jenkins.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mae (Flaigg) Strohschein, one sister, Nita Vandermay, and one granddaughter, Payton Rae Kracht.

The family extends their deepest and sincerest gratitude and appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff of Monument Health (MH) Home Health and Hospice as well as MH Primary Care Physician Drew Moss, the retired Primary Care Provider Dr. Forrest Brady, and MH Hospice Providers and Nursing Staff. A special thank you to Dr. Marc Aldrich, MH Hospitalist, for your continued devotion to medicine and genuine love for those in your care. Thank you for going above and beyond to ensure our Mom received the best care possible. We are forever indebted to you for becoming a lifeline for us all at a most difficult time. We also thank all Monument Health staff and Departments for the care and compassion provided for Mom. We knew she was not going to get better but you all made her remaining days as comfortable and pleasant as they could be and for that we are forever grateful.

Per Karen’s wishes, a private family viewing and graveside service will be held.
