GILLETTE, Wyo. – Kashton Ford of Sturgis, S.D. ruled the Bareback Riding Wednesday, winning both performances at the National High School Rodeo Finals in Gillette.
Ford won the Wednesday morning performance by turning in a 79 point ride. Ford then turned in a 78 point ride in the evening performance to dominate the day for Team South Dakota.
In the bull riding, Kash Krogman was one of only two to get a qualifying ride, as the New Underwood athlete brought home a 72 point performance – second only to Ever Morrison of Nevada with a 77.
In boys team standings, South Dakota sits in sixth place with Texas holding a big lead at the top. Utah is a distant second, Oklahoma is third, Wyoming is fourth and Colorado is fifth.
Over on the girls side, Piper Hanson of Burke brought home a fifth place finish in the Girls Cutting with a 141. She was tied with two other cowgirls in the evening performance.
Team South Dakota is sitting in 8th place in the girls standings with Texas on top. Nebraska is sixth and Montana is 7th.
In the overall team standings, South Dakota is 5th with Texas on top and Utah in second.
