Kathleen Mary Kieffer

Kathleen Mary Kieffer

Kathleen Mary Kieffer, known affectionately as Kathy, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, at the age of 68. Kathy was born April 4, 1956, in Rapid City, SD, where she was born a small-town girl with big dreams. From a young age, it was clear that Kathy had a fierce spirit. She knew that the world was full of adventure, and she was determined to explore it.

In 1976, she enlisted in the Air Force, serving proudly. This was just the beginning of her journey, a journey that would take her all over the world, experiencing new places, new cultures, and challenges that would shape her into the fearless, confident woman we all remember.

After her time in the military, Kathy moved to California in the early 80’s, where she raised two wonderful sons, David and Michael. She was an amazing mother, and her love for them knew no bounds. Those who knew her well could see how deeply she cherished her family. She wore many hats, being a mother, a leader, a mentor, and always the one who made sure everything was in order. And if anyone asked her sons, they’d tell you: Kathy reserved the right to celebrate both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, because when you play both roles with such grace and strength, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds!

In the mid-90s, Kathy took her love for life to Colorado, continuing her adventure in the beautiful mountains and landscapes. Whether it was swimming, camping, skiing, bike riding, or just enjoying a peaceful drive through the mountains, Kathy thrived in nature. The outdoors was not just a pastime—they were a reflection of her zest for life, her love of exploration, and her desire to embrace every moment with open arms.

As a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Kathy gave freely of her heart. She cherished the time spent with her four grandchildren Alisha, Ezra, Nina, and Nora, and loved to share her wisdom, love, and humor with them. She was a beloved sister to her two older brothers Thomas, John, her twin brother Richard and her sister Sandra. Kathy’s family meant everything to her, and they will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude.

Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia (Straw) Arnold; daughter, Tamika Anderson; brothers, Dominick Kieffer, and Joseph Kieffer, and sisters, Gloria Jean Kieffer, and Judith Harbert.

She was laid to rest at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. You may sign her online guestbook at blackhillsfuneralhome.com.
