SUMMERSET, S.D. – Thunderstorms dropped large hail on the Summerset area last night, causing some extensive damage.
Baseball to golf ball size hail was reported in both Summerset and Piedmont, where damage to homes, cars and other personal property is being reported this morning.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City says the storm moved in to the Summerset area around 7:30 after dropping 1.25-inch hail on Mount Rushmore. Keystone also reported some large hail and gusty winds.
Videos posted on social media shared by Summerset residents show the large hail breaking vehicle windows, pummeling outdoor plants and damaging homes.
There have been no serious injuries reported from the large hail.
