Larry John Johnson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 99 in Rapid City, South Dakota, due to natural causes. Born on November 16, 2025, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Larry’s life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and a spirited zest for life.
Larry’s journey began in the heart of Minnesota, where he grew up surrounded by the love of his parents, Harold and Mollie Johnson, who predeceased him. He attended Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul, where he laid the foundations of a robust work ethic that would follow him throughout his life. After graduation, Larry embarked on a career that spanned 45 years as a store manager in the HVAC and refrigeration industry, where he was known for his dedication and leadership.
Later, Larry found a new passion in real estate, working as a Real Estate Agent for Coldwell Bankers in Rapid City, South Dakota. His warm personality and genuine care for others made him a favorite among clients and colleagues alike. Larry’s professional life was marked by a commitment to excellence and service, qualities that endeared him to many.
Outside of work, Larry was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He found joy and freedom on the open road, a pleasure he often shared with friends and family. His love for golf provided him with countless hours of enjoyment and friendly competition. A loyal fan of the Denver Broncos, Larry never missed a game and took great delight in cheering on his favorite football team.
Larry was a man who cherished simple pleasures, including savoring his favorite scotch, a reflection of his ability to find happiness in the everyday. He lived by the words of Helen Keller: “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they must be felt with the heart.” This quote encapsulated Larry’s approach to life, as he always prioritized the emotional bonds and experiences that brought depth and richness to his existence.
Remembered as loving and kind, Larry’s spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. His presence was a source of comfort and joy, and his ability to connect with people on a genuine level was one of his most remarkable traits.
Larry’s legacy lives on through his beloved family. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Tonia Le Febre-Johnson; his loving daughter, Brandy Guinard; his sons, Daniel (Amy) Le Febre and Donnie (Kylie Kindred) Le Febre; and his cherished grandchildren, Dusty and Wyatt Le Febre and Peyton Kindred. Each of them carries a piece of Larry’s heart and spirit, and they will continue to honor his memory through the way they live their lives.
