PIERRE, SD – The South Dakota legislature is set to hold its final day on Monday, March 30 electronically as a COVID-19 precaution.
The last day is usually reserved for addressing vetoes by the Governor.
District 20 State Senator Josh Klumb of Mount Vernon says it’s a historic move and the right thing to do. “We’re asking people and businesses to not gather in groups of more than 10. How would it look that we’re totally not following that request?” he asks. “I think this is something good.”
He says there may be legislation proposed that would allow lawmakers to meet electronically in an emergency. “This is the time we live in now. And how we use it in the future has yet to be determined.”
Klumb is part of a small group of lawmakers working with the Legislative Research Council to test the system prior to Monday’s roll-out.
