Law enforcement says more than a dozen guns taken from Sturgis business

STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis police are investigating a burglary at the Sturgis Guns store early Sunday morning.

Sturgis Police Chief Geody VanDewaater says the burglars shattered the front glass door of the business to gain entry and made off with numerous rifles and handguns. He believes as many as 9 pistols were taken along with 4 A.R. style rifles.

According to a Facebook post by Sturgis Guns owner Tammy Bohn, authorities were on site within minutes of their alarm notification.

The break in reportedly occurred around 2:30 a.m.

VanDewaater says the business did have surveillance equipment and they will be using those to help them in the investigation.

Bohn’s Facebook post read:

“Thank You Thank You! Chief Geody VanDewater, his officers with Sturgis Police Department
and South Dakota Highway Patrol. They were on site within minutes of the alarm notification. Huge thank you to Bryan with Gene’s Lock Shop and Security Systems showing up within hours to help. Thank you Brenda Vasknetz and Rocky for helping us clean up. Unfortunately Sturgis SD is changing.”
