SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota Legislators still want answers from the Department of Revenue in their efforts to prevent state employee fraud in the future.
The Legislature’s Government Operations and Audit Committee issued subpoenaes in October to compel testimony from Revenue Department officials.
Those subpoenaes are tied up in court because the Department challenged them.
Committee member, Senator David Wheeler of Huron, asked the committee to approve a new set of subpoenaes that are narrower in scope, as they search for answers on anti-fraud procedures going forward.
Fraud charges have been brought against four Department of Revenue employees over the past several months.
One of them passed away before charges could be filed.
