BROOKINGS, S.D. – Sturgis jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but Brookings would come back and beat the Titans 9-5 in game 1 of their best of three regional series Friday.
Owen Cass led Sturgis by going 4 for 4 at the plate with a run and two RBI. David Anderson went 2 for 4 with a pair of runs and RJ Andrzejewski added two RBI.
Dustin Alan pitched 4 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing seven runs (three earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out one and hitting five batters.
In other first round scores, Brandon Valley defeated Spearfish 7-2 and Rapid City Post 320 beat Sioux Falls West 12-2.
All teams play games 2 and, if necessary, game three Saturday.
And, at the Region 7B Tournament game, Winner/Colome defeated Gregory 16-6 to earn a spot in next week’s Class B State Tournament.
