BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Sturgis Titans saw their 2022 baseball season come to an end Saturday with an 8-5 loss to the Brookings Bandits in game two of their best of three series.
Brookings led Sturgis 8-0 heading into the seventh inning when the Titans made a game of it, scoring five runs to give the Bandits a scare.
Owen Cass went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI for Sturgis, while Kain Peters collected a pair of hits with a run and an RBI and Ridge Inhofer picked up a double.
Cass also pitched all seven innings, surrendering eight runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking one.
With the win, Brookings heads to the next week’s state tournament in Rapid City.
Meanwhile, Spearfish also ended their season with a 7-0 loss to Brandon Valley.
Rapid City Post 320, however, punched their ticket to the state tournament by sweeping Sioux Falls West. The Stars won by a score of 11-5 Saturday.
It’s the first state tournament berth for the Stars since 2016.
