Legion Tournament: Rapid City Post 320, Brandon Valley eliminated with losses Thursday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – It’s day two of the South Dakota American Legion State Class A Baseball tournament and Pierre held off Brandon Valley in extra innings in the first game of the day.

Pierre scored two runs in the fifth after Brandon Valley took the lead by scoring two runs of their own in the fourth.

Brandon Valley answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, only to see Pierre take the lead, scoring 4 runs in the top of the sixth.

Brandon Valley then scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh.

In the eighth inning, Pierre scored the winning run to beat Brandon Valley 7-6.

Matthew Hanson helped lead with Pierre with 3 hits and 3 R.B.I.’s.

The loss eliminates Brandon Valley.

In the second game of the day, Rapid City Post 320 dropped a 4-2 game to Harrisburg Post 45.

The Stars jumped on top, scoring a run in the bottom of the third, but Harrisburg would answer with two runs in the top of the fourth.

Harrisburg scored two more runs in the sixth, and the Stars could only muster an additional run in the bottom of the inning to close out the scoring.

Gavyn Dansby helped lead Post 320 with a pair of hits.

Braxton Kusler pitched a complete game for Harrisburg, with four strikeouts.

The loss eliminates the Stars from the Tournament.
