Legislator says S.D.’s new medical marijuana law could cause problems for gun owners

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakotan’s passed medical marijuana last fall and the law is supposed to go into effect July 1st.

However, according to state Rep. Kevin Jensen of Canton, who is also an enhanced concealed carry instructor, if you get a medical marijuana card, you might be jeopardizing your right to purchase a firearm

That’s because marijuana is still illegal under federal law.

The federal gun transfer form asks if you use marijuana.

Jensen says if you answer truthfully, there is no gun sale.

If you lie, you commit a federal crime.
