RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Canyon Lake All-Stars played the Rapid City Youth Baseball All-Stars in second round action at the Little League Tournament Friday evening.
The game was a rematch from the finals of the West River District Tournament in which Canyon Lake won. In Friday night’s game, the Rapid City Youth team jumped to an early lead and held on to beat Canyon Lake 7-4.
The Rapid City All-Stars led 6-0 after the third inning thanks to a grand slam by Pryor Wheeler.
Canyon Lake would respond in the top of the fourth with a grand slam of their own by Wes Riggins.
But the Rapid City Youth Squad was able to add an insurance run late in the game and secure the win.
The Rapid City Youth Baseball All-Stars earn a spot in the state championship game on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Canyon Lake All-Stars return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. against the Sioux Falls Little League team in an elimination game.
Sioux Falls eliminated Capital City on Friday by the score of 16-0.
