A b-1 flyover highlighted Military Appreciation Day at the Rally

Local veteran honored at Military Appreciation Day

STURGIS, S.D. – Tuesday is military appreciation day at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, with the annual presentation taking place at Harley Davidson Rally Point.

This year’s veteran honoree is Michael Bachand, who was recognized during today’s services. Bachand has led a varied and accomplished life as a military veteran, businessman, rancher, husband, father, grandfather, and city council member.

Bachand served in the Air Force as well as the South Dakota National Guard.

Speakers for Tuesday’s ceremony were Governor Kristi Noem as well as members from the South Dakota National Guard, Ellsworth Air Force Base 28th Bomb Wing and Veterans of Foreign Wars. All offered their gratitude and commended Bachand for his years of service. Governor Noem provided the proclamation and award for Bachand.

 

Sturgis Mayor Angela Wilkerson delivered the Military Appreciation Day proclamation.

An Ellsworth Air Force Base B-1 provided a flyover over Sturgis Main Street at 3:00 p.m.
