Long time STM coach Dave Hollenbeck leaving for West Central

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Long time St. Thomas More boys basketball coach Dave Hollenbeck is leaving the school to take over as head boys basketball coach at West Central.

A press release from West Central this week announced Hollenbeck as the new coach.

Hollenbeck has spent 29 years as the Cavaliers head coach and leaves the school with a record of 532 wins and 156 losses, which ranks him eighth all-time among South Dakota boys basketball coaches.

Hollenbeck led the Cavaliers to the state tournament 15 times since 2004. During that time, STM made it to the finals six times, winning four state championships.

His teams also claimed 19 conference championships and recorded 15 seasons with 20 or more wins.

Eighteen of his players went on to compete at the collegiate level, including four who played at the NCAA Division I level.

There’s a been a series of high school coaching changes around the Black Hills region.

Eric Knight, West Central Superintendent said, “We are thrilled to welcome Coach Hollenbeck to West Central. His coaching accomplishments speak for themselves, but what impressed us most was his commitment to building strong student-athletes and leaders. We’re excited for what’s ahead for Trojan basketball.”

“I’m honored to join the Trojan family and lead the boys’ basketball program at West Central,” said Dave Hollenbeck. “This is a proud and passionate community, and I look forward to building on that tradition. I’m excited to get to work with our student-athletes and help them grow both on and off the court.”

Hollenbeck takes over the West Central boys basketball team that won the consolation championship last year at the State ‘A’ tournament with a 21-4 record.
