RAPID CITY, S.D. – Head Coach Kelvin Torve says it was ‘a disappointing state tournament,’ as his Rapid City Post 22 Hardhats were eliminated Thursday with a loss to Yankton.
Post 22 could only muster four hits as Yankton rolled to a 6 to 2 victory.
Wilson Kieffer was the only Hardhats hitter to finish the contest with multiple hits, as he went 2 for 3 and scored a run.
Declan Mickley suffered the loss in 3 2/3 innings as a starter.
Post 22’s play isn’t quite done yet, however, as they return to action on August 2 as it competes in the Central Plains Regional as the host team at Fitzgerald Stadium.
In other action at the state tournament yesterday, Brookings Post 74 eliminated Renner Post 307 with a 13-2 win.
In the nightcap last night, the two unbeaten teams clashed with the second seeded Harrisburg Gold Squad edging top seeded Sioux Falls East 3-2.
Today, Brookings plays Sioux Falls East and Harrisburg faces Yankton.
