RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City police are investigating a Thursday evening shooting that sent a male to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police say around 6:30 p.m. they responded to E. North Street between Pine St. and Spruce St. for a report of shooting. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, who was conscious, provided details about the suspect.
Based on the description from the victim and witnesses, police quickly located the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Trevon Spotted Eagle, nearby. Spotted Eagle was walking with a woman at the time. After questioning both individuals, police say the firearm used in the shooting was found in a backpack carried by the woman.
Spotted Eagle was arrested for Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Former Violent Offender. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
It is important to note that the charges against Spotted Eagle are merely accusations at this time and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
