Man charged in beating death makes initial court appearance

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A man accused of killing an 18-year-old man made his initial court appearance in federal court Tuesday.

Eugene High Hawk, 59, pleaded not guilty to one count of first degree murder, one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with the death of Dominick Jealous Of Him.

Eugene High Hawk allegedly beat Jealous Of Him to death on June 24 near Wounded Knee.

His 25-year-old son, Spencer High Hawk, also faces murder charges in relation to the case.

Eugene High Hawk faces a mandatory life in prison sentence if convicted.

Spencer High Hawk is scheduled to be arraigned on one count of first degree murder when he makes a court appearance on Friday, July 15.
