Man charged in connection with wife’s murder makes initial court appearance

DEADWOOD, S.D. — The man who was arrested over the weekend in connection with his wife’s murder made his initial court appearance Monday in Lawrence County.

Dreau Lester Rogers, 33, appeared via video before Fourth Circuit Magistrate Judge Chad Callaham Monday morning.

Rogers is facing charges of first degree murder, possession of a controlled substance and ingestion of a controlled substance. He is charged in the shooting death of 43-year Destiny Dawn Rogers.

Police found Destiny suffering from a gunshot wound early Saturday morning. She was taken by ambulance to the Spearfish hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Dreau Rogers could face the death penalty if convicted of first degree murder. He is being represented by a court appointed attorney and is being held without bond.
