STURGIS, S.D. – Meade County authorities responded to a report of a man who had jumped off an I-90 bridge outside Sturgis Friday.
The Meade County Sheriff’s office says at approximately 2:20, they were called to the I-90, Exit 37 overpass at Pleasant Valley.
Upon arrival, authorities found an injured man who was lying on Interstate 90 below the bridge.
Witness statements were gathered and the 72-year-old man from Spearfish was transported to the Monument Health Hospital in Sturgis where he died.
Investigators believe the man took his own life by jumping off of the bridge and onto the freeway.
The man’s name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
The incident remains under investigation.
