RAPID CITY, S.D. – A man is in custody after police say he barricaded himself inside a restaurant in Rapid City.
Rapid City Police were sent to the Panchero’s Restaurant on Omaha Street around 4:00 p.m.
The Rapid City Police Department says they were assisting the U.S. Marshals Service in serving a warrant at the restaurant when the man brandished a firearm before he barricaded himself in a back room.
Police say the man was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. and no one was hurt in the standoff.
Pennington County Sheriff’s Office Captain Tony Harrison spoke to the media about the Special Response Team used in the standoff, saying, “These are lifesaving pieces of equipment that we’re using and we’re using them because we want to make sure this young person came out safely and with people that can deal with them, versus someone that may have to make a different decision because they don’t have the equipment. So the SRT is a life-saving machine or a life-saving tool is what we are, and it worked today.”
