SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The man killed by law enforcement during a standoff in central Sioux Falls Thursday morning is Elwood Dwyer, 52.
KELO.com News learned the man’s name through a source who knew Dwyer.
At a news conference Thursday morning following the fatal shooting, Officer Sam Clemens said authorities had negotiated with Dwyer for about an hour. Clemens said Dwyer approached or charged law enforcement with a weapon and he was shot. Clemens says Dwyer died at the scene.
Dwyer was suspected in stabbing two adults and a juvenile earlier Thursday morning. They managed to take themselves to a hospital for treatment. There was no update on their condition.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will investigate the officer-involved shooting.
