Man who drowned in Missouri River found

PIERRE, S.D. – A 37 year-old Pierre man was recovered from the Missouri River Thursday afternoon following six days of searching along the river.

The Stanley County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the news Thursday through a post on its Facebook page.

Lee Weber was around found four-PM Thursday on the Stanley County side of the river between a pair of bridges that cross the Missouri between Pierre and Fort Pierre.

As Weber was pulled ashore, an American Flag was draped over him as family, colleagues and searchers paid respects.

Weber was then transported by law enforcement to an awaiting vehicle for transport to a funeral home by law enforcement escort.

Weber went missing Friday afternoon when he jumped in the river in an attempt to recover his eight year-old son, who had fallen out of a moving boat.

A nearby watercraft recovered child, but the Missouri’s current swept Weber away, who was not wearing a life jacket.

Search crews of divers, boats, drones and aircraft looked for Weber over a 15-mile stretch of the river from Diver’s Point to the Antelope Creek area southeast of Pierre.

Local, state and federal responders from 18 agencies were involved in the search for Weber.

A GoFundMe account has been setup in Lee Weber’s name and has already raised over 19-thousand dollars for Weber’s family.
