Marian Marie Miller was born on May 16, 1948, in Pierre, South Dakota, to loving parents Arthur and Harriet Miller, who raised her on their family farm. She grew up in a home filled with hard work, kindness, and strong values. Marian graduated from Draper High School and pursued her calling to care for others by attending St. John’s McNamara School of Nursing, where she fulfilled her dream of becoming a registered nurse.
In 1969, Marian married Robert Terneus Jr., and together they welcomed their beloved son, Robert Terneus III. After living and nursing in Rapid City, South Dakota, and West Virginia, Marian eventually returned to her roots in South Dakota.
She found love again and married William Dalton in 1973, and they were blessed with their dear daughter, Michele Dalton.
Marian found joy in her family, her work, and her community. She worked at Fort Meade Hospital from 1975 to 1980, where her compassion touched the lives of many patients and colleagues.
Marian’s strength and resilience inspired all who knew her. After moving to the Massa Berry Nursing Home in Sturgis, she continued to live with grace and courage, even in the face of life’s challenges. Marian fought a brave battle with cancer, and on September 16, 2024, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and loving sister.
She leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of her children, Robert and Michele; her sister, Janice Jensen, and family; her brother, Dennis Miller, and family; and her grandchildren: Kayla, Krista, Kyle, Kambria, Connor, Chase, Leigha, Leah, and Nickolas. Many friends, nieces, and nephews will also forever remember her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Harriet, and her grandparents, who surely welcomed her home with open arms.
Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the hospice team and the many caregivers who provided comfort and care to Marian throughout the years. Your compassion and dedication made all the difference.
Memorial services will be Saturday, September 21, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Sturgis United Methodist Church, Sturgis, SD.
