Mark Delano Bachand

Mark Delano Bachand

Mark Delano Bachand was born on March 28, 1942 to Ezward and Evelyn (Madison) Bachand.   He and his five siblings were raised near the Belle Fourche River southeast of Volunteer.  He attended country school until the eighth grade, and then attended Sturgis High School, graduating in 1961. Rodeo was a big part of his life.  He rode bareback and judged for many years, often telling stories of his great adventures during this time.
While he was recuperating in the hospital from a broken leg, he met a young woman working there named Shirley Olson who would become his wife and the mother of his sons, Shane and Bradley.  Mark was incredibly proud of both of his sons and everything they have accomplished.
Mark’s father and grandfather drove the stagecoach in the Days of ’76 rodeo and parade since 1922.  Mark was very proud of this legacy, taking over in 1972 and continuing until 2002.  He was also invited to the NFR in Las Vegas in 1986 to re-enact the Days of ’76 stagecoach holdup during two of the performances.   Mark was deeply honored to be a part of the 100th year celebration of the Days of ’76 and the Bachand family legacy surrounding this event.
Mark loved people and enjoyed visiting with everyone wherever he went.  Some of his favorite hobbies were music, dancing, riding his horse, and telling stories of growing up in the country and living the country life.
Mark will be deeply missed. His family and friends find comfort in knowing that he is in a great place and continuing to have amazing adventures!
