UNDATED – Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Events to celebrate Mr. King’s life and legacy are taking place across the county – including right here in South Dakota.
Faith Temple Church in Rapid City is celebrating Dr. King’s life in a celebration that just got under way at the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn.
This year’s theme is “In Once Accord.”
And, during the time he was the leading figure against discrimination and segregation in the south, Martin Luther King Junior made a stop in South Dakota.
It was 1961 when King made his first trip to the state, visiting with media and city leaders in Sioux Falls.
King spoke about how the pursuit of non-violence would be the driving force behind the civil rights movement.
As many of us look back at the Dr. King’s life and legacy, some students are giving a strong voice to a new dream for 2020.
Here’s ABC’s Cheri Preston.
