Mary Ellen Miller

Mary Ellen Miller, a beacon of love and laughter, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 27, 2024, in Rapid City, South Dakota, at the venerable age of 77.

Born on May 17, 1947, in the heart of Clay County, West Virginia, Mary’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and the joy of nurturing a family. Mary, a devoted homemaker, was the epitome of love in action. She dedicated her life to her family, creating a warm and welcoming home where everyone was greeted with a smile and an open heart.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Jenine) Rucker, Lisa Rucker, Mary (Francisco) Reyes, Walter (Christy) Lemasters, and Deryl Duane (Megan) Rider, a brother, Jerry Hamrick, a special mention of grandchildren whom she raised, Kayleigh and Alex Rider and a multitude of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She raised them with a gentle hand and a generous spirit, instilling in them the values of compassion and humor that she lived by every day.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dayton Cornelius and Mertie Gay (Brady) Hamerick, six sisters and one brother.

Her laughter was infectious, and her sense of humor brightened the lives of all who knew her. Mary’s presence was a source of comfort and happiness, making her the heart of any gathering. She lived by the words of Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Mary’s life was a reflection of this philosophy, as she found beauty and purpose in the day-to-day acts of care and nurturing that make a family thrive. Mary’s interests extended beyond the walls of her home. She had a passion for travel, exploring new places, and creating lasting memories with her loved ones. Her grandchildren were the recipients of her boundless love and were often spoiled with her affection and time. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as listening to music and being surrounded by all types of animals. Her love for the natural world was a gentle reminder of the importance of kindness and empathy towards all living creatures. Mary’s warmth and kindness were not confined to her immediate family. Her involvement in her community and associations was marked by the same generosity and commitment she showed at home. She was a friend to many, always ready to lend an ear or share a word of encouragement. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless lives she touched with her kind heart. As we bid farewell to Mary Ellen Miller, we are reminded of the impact one life can have on so many. She was not just a loving mother and grandmother, but a beacon of joy and a pillar of strength to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love she gave so freely. Mary’s life was a journey of love, laughter, and kindness. As we honor her memory, we take solace in knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift us. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and friends, and her warmth will be felt for generations to come. Rest in peace, dear Mary. Your love will forever be our guide.
