Born on October 13, 1949, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Mavis’s life journey was marked by selfless dedication to her family, friends, and faith.
Mavis spent her formative years in Jay, Oklahoma, where she completed the 11th grade at Jay High School. Her education laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and growth, characteristics that would come to define her. Mavis’s hands were rarely still, as she channeled her talents into becoming an accomplished seamstress. Her work not only clothed her loved ones but also wove a tapestry of memories that her family will cherish forever.
Her heart was her guide, and it led her to a life of service and devotion. Mavis’s unwavering faith was evident to all who knew her, as she read her Bible daily, living the words she cherished. In the words of Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Mavis embodied this sentiment, touching lives with her small acts of great love.
Mavis’s love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence. She is survived by a family that adored her: sons, Quinton Cochran and John Cochran, III; siblings, John B. (Glannis) Wooten, Sherrel (Kay) Wooten, Kevin (Belle) Wooten, Janice (Mitchell) Sisk, Marilyn (Mike) Goforth, Jonnetta (Kip) Marquis, Roger (Jennifer) Wooten, and Karen (Russ) Roper. Each family member was a precious thread in the fabric of her life, and her legacy will live on through their stories and shared memories.
Beyond her family and faith, Mavis had a profound appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. She cherished her time spent sightseeing in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where the majesty of the landscape echoed the beauty of her soul.
