STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade 46-1 School Board met for their regular December meeting last night.
Ahead of the meeting, school administrators and South Dakota Legislators Gary Cammack, Dean Wink and Kirk Chaffee met for their yearly legislative round table and dinner.
The annual get-together is to discuss legislative issues expected to be addressed at the upcoming legislative session.
At the meeting, school improvements were on the evening’s agenda.
The Buildings and Grounds Committee asked the Board to approve the service agreement with FMG Engineering to assist the district in developing the Sturgis Brown High School Parking Lot Repairs and Renovation Project. This is a FY25 project in the capital outlay budget to align with the completion of SBHS Cafeteria Project.
The $17,600 project includes reconfiguration of parking stalls and aisles to improve traffic flow as well as an asphalt mill and overlay on needed sections.
The committee also asked the board to approve the preliminary architectural study for a new C.T.E. addition at Sturgis Brown.
The board also approved a request for SBHS administration to work with a gym floor vendor to develop a plan to replace the east gym floor. This information will be brought back to the Board for review and to allow the high school administration to work collaboratively with a vendor to schedule potential installation in the summer of 2025.
