Meade 46-1 School Board hears 2024 Budget presentation

STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade 46-1 School Board met for their June meeting Monday night in the board room of the Williams Administration Building.

On the agenda, was the presentation of the 2024 budget.

2023-2024 General Fund Expenditures are at $24,145,227. That is a 5% increase from the 2023 budget.

Capital Outlay Expenditures are $8.6 million and the Special Service Budget for 2023-2024 is $5,867,000. The Special Service budget is a 15% increase over 2023.

The district is anticipating a 7% increase in state aid along with a small increase in enrollment.

Also last night, Business Manager Brett Burditt requested approval from the Board to amend the 2023 budget by $250,000 for expenses incurred in June for the Sturgis Brown High School Cafeteria Project.

The board also held discussion on the possibility to either eliminate or suspend dance for next year.

Currently, the district has just two students interested in dance, but 24 girls interested in competitive or sideline cheer.

With the addition of girl’s softball, the district has increased the number of female athletes participating even with the suspension or elimination of dance.

The board held discussion only on the matter and did not make a decision.
