STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade 46-1 School Board held their February meeting Monday night at the Williams Administrative Building with a full agenda.
Following up January’s work session, the board again discussed the future of the 5th grade at Whitewood Elementary School.
A discussion about possibly moving the fifth grade over to Williams Middle School has brought about some concern from some Whitewood parents. Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt says the moving of the fifth graders is not an absolute necessity for Fiscal 2025 but it could be in Fiscal 2026. Regardless, the board only discussed the issue last night, which is just one part of future budget considerations for the district.
The board also discussed the Homeschool Opportunities Program and the City of Sturgis Woodle Field Boundary Map. The City of Sturgis has provided the district with a preliminary boundary map of Woodle Field for the Board to review if the boundary is acceptable or if there are concerns.
The board last night also heard from the Business Office and Buildings and Grounds Department, who requested authorization to advertise for bids for engineering services for the design of the SBHS Parking Lot Improvement Project.
The cost estimate package of $313,476.44 is the proposed work to be advertised.
