STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade 46-1 School Board held a special meeting and work session Monday night.
Discussion focused on several topics, including letters of intent from the city of Sturgis to sell to the district a portion of the fairgrounds property and Woodle Field and a proposal to replace the floor at the east gym at the high school.
This project is being moved forward by three months to the spring of 2025 due to scheduling of floor install by FLR Sanders. FLR Sanders is the contract that the board is expected to act on at its October meeting in order to book the dates.
As for the proposal from the city, Sturgis is asking for $255,000 for the fairgrounds property and $67,500 for the Woodle Field property. The fairgrounds property includes the northern half of the dirt track. The city began discussions with the board about the property and possible sale last November.
The only action taken by the board Monday night was the approval of hiring American Engineering Testing to do geotechnical studying and take bore samples to determine if the subsurface conditions at Woodle Field are adequate to replace the current grass surface with artificial turf.
The cost of the study is listed as approximately $4,700.
