STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade 46-1 School Board met Monday night, and swore in the winners from the June Primary Election.
Receiving oaths of office were Sandy Cass, Justin Jutting and Lee Spring.
The board also elected a new board president to serve for the next term. Charlie Wheeler was selected to serve as president, and he told KBHB Radio News wants to hit the ground running and looks forward to working with the new superintendent.
Wheeler says growth within in the district is certainly on the future agenda for the board.
Recently, the district sent a letter to the City of Sturgis, expressing interest in possibly purchasing city owned property adjacent to the Elementary School for future growth.
Other business last night included the approval of organizational items, M.O.U.’s, or memorandum of understanding for School Resource Officer, ABC Project SUCCESS Coordinator and Behavior Management Services; as well as approval of the 2022-2023 budget and property tax levy.
The adopted Annual budget levy requests are as follows:
GENERAL FUND:
$1.362 per $1,000 assessed agricultural valuation
$3.048 per $1,000 owner-occupied valuation
$6.308 per $1,000 assessed other non-agriculture & utility valuation
SPECIAL EDUCATION:
$1.400 per $1,000 of total valuation.
CAPITAL OUTLAY:
$6,000,000
