Meade County Commission Assistant Jerry Derr resigns

STURGIS, S.D. – Meade County Commission Assistant Jerry Derr has resigned.

Derr, who turned in his resignation this past week, had been with the county for 12 years.

Derr said he was stepping away from his duties with the commission in order to “take a little break.” He said the commission will need to come up with a job description for the position before posting the job.

Among the duties he was responsible for include doing accounts payable and payroll, managing the FireWise Program, employee insurance, and being the assistant to the commissioners.

Derr told commissioners “I’m not retiring. I don’t have another job. I just need a break.”

Derr’s assistant Jordan Neeb, also is leaving the office.
