Meade County, Dist. 29 Candidates hold forum Tuesday

STURGIS, S.D. – Candidates running for Legislature District 29, Meade County Treasurer and Meade County Commission participated in a Candidate’s forum Tuesday night.

For county offices, candidates attending were current commissioner Doreen Allison Creed and challenger Joshua Ross and Meade County Treasurer candidates Robin Shrake and Robin Harrison Korth.

Incumbents running are Creed for commission and Robin Shrake is the incumbent for Treasurer.

In the  commission race, Creed says “being a commissioner can be a full-time job … thankfully, I am retired. In a county two and half times the size of Rhode Island, there are always challenges. It is one reason I like my job. Good government does not happen by accident. It takes dedication, hours of research, extensive knowledge, and experience.” She went on to say “Meade County has improved services despite 50-year high inflation. Commissioners made drastic changes to keep taxes down, yet still provide necessary services and a safe place to live.”

Her challenger, Joshua Ross, says “I worked for the Meade County Highway Department for a couple years and in that time I noticed a lot of things that you can work better at. We’re definitely behind on maintaining our bridges and our culverts in our county as well as our roads so I’m for change,”

In the Treasurer’s race, Shrake said, “I’ve been in this role for the past three years. Since stepping into the position, I developed a professional working relationship with all the county commissioners along with all the department heads in Meade County,”

Her challenger, Robin Korth, stated, “I’ve been through moving over here, upgrades to software for motor vehicle registration. I loved my job and loved the people and how chaotic it got around tax time and the end of the month. I truly thrived in that office. I learned about hard work teamworknd leadership.”

Candidates running District 29 Legislature were also on hand Tuesday to answer questions about a wide range of topics from the audience.

Running for District 29 Senate are John Carley and Kirk Chaffee. Running for District 29 House are Gary Cammack, Terri Jorgenson and Kathy Rice.

The primary election is coming up on June 4th.
